5000 Som with RAPID® HD Detect Completes Banknote Modernization

The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic has introduced the new 5000 Som banknote to the public. This is the seventh and last banknote of the fifth series, completing the modernization that started in May 2023. The new series includes denominations ranging from 20 to 5000 Som – all featuring RAPID® HD Detect from Crane Currency.

Up close image of the RAPID HD Detect threadThe 5000 Som banknote contains RAPID® HD Detect security thread for the highest public protection against counterfeiting, and machine-readability for easy verification by banknote processing equipment.

The RAPID HD Detect security thread is 5 mm wide and shows a broken line, changing to a continuous line when viewed against the light. When the note is tilted, the thread background moves rapidly up and down, and the National Bank’s diamond-shaped logo pulsates.

The secure IR properties of RAPID HD Detect are invisible to the eye but can be verified by banknote processing equipment, from high-speed sorters to bill validators and acceptors.

The banknote design was created by the Bank in collaboration with the printers Crane Currency and Oberthur Fiduciaire. The front side features a portrait of Kyrgyz actor and artist S. Chokmorov and the reverse side shows the Ala-Too cinema in Bishkek.

The previous banknotes in the new series, 200, 500 and 1000 Som, were introduced in May, 2023, followed by the 20, 50 and 100 Som notes in February, 2024.
